FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions About the LifeLine System

Here are some questions we are frequently asked by nonprofit organization who are considering purchasing LifeLine 8.

Why can't I download a copy of the sample from the web site?
The FREE LifeLine 8 Sample is a full working version* of the system. It is not a page turning walk-through. Because it is a full working version we have to ship it on a CD.  It is a very large system and would take too long to download from the web site.

* The sample version allows a maximum of 30 constituents to be entered into the system.

Why don't you have an 800 number?
If we had an 800 number we would have to charge users for technical support whether they used it or not. We would rather keep it simple and cost effective for your organization. You call us when you have questions. That way the only thing you pay for is the cost of your phone call.

What are the LifeLine system requirements?
LifeLine 8 requires the following minimum system configuration:
    Microsoft® Windows® 95 or above
Pentium® class or faster processor (Pentium® II or faster strongly recommended)
32 megabytes (MB) of RAM (64 MB or more recommended)
50 MB of available hard disk space to install LifeLine 8
10 MB of available disk space for your data (for 5000 constituents)
    Any Windows® compatible printer

How much does technical support cost?
We offer Free technical support. All we ask is that you call us. You can call as often as you need us and talk with us until your questions are answered. You just have to pay for the phone call. We don’t have an 800 number for technical support because that would mean we would have to change users for the right to call us even if they never call.

How much does LifeLine cost?
The license for a Single User Version costs $595 plus $10 shipping and handling. The license for a Multi-User Version costs $845 plus $10 shipping and handling. The Single User Version can be run on a stand-alone computer or on a single computer that is part of an office network. The Multi-User Version can be run on a network of computers and be accessed by all the computers on the network. Your purchase will be mailed to you via First Class US Mail. If you would like your purchase sent to you by a faster method please contact us for pricing information. We have no annual support fees and do not charge for technical support. All we ask if that you pay for the phone call to use when you need assistance.

What is the difference between Single User and Multi-User License?
The Single User Version License allows you to install LifeLine on a stand-alone computer or on a single computer that is part of an office network. The Multi-User Version License allows you to install LifeLine on a network of computers and access the LifeLine system by all the computers on the network.

Why is LifeLine so much less expensive then the competition?
At Straight Forward Software we understand that even small to medium sized nonprofit organizations need to be computerized. We also understand that those nonprofits do not always have a lot of money to spend on things to keep their organization running smoothly behind the scenes. We saw a need for affordable fund raising software and decided to take on the challenge of providing it. LifeLine is our solution.

Our organization has data in another database. Can we get that data into LifeLine 8 without retyping everything?
Whether or not we can convert data out of your old system will depend on a number of things. It will depend on the current database format, whether it can be exported to a standard format, what kind of data is contained in the database, and how it fits into the LifeLine data format. Give our technical support team a call. We can help you determine if data conversion is possible.

When I receive donations will LifeLine 8 print thank you letters for me?
LifeLine 8 does not print your thank you letters. LifeLine 8 exports your data to your word processor so you can do a mail merge with your letter.

Does LifeLine 8 have any password capabilities?
LifeLine has multiple levels of password access. You can have No system security so that anyone who has access to your computer can access your LifeLine. You can have Single Password access that allows anyone who knows the password to gain access to your system. You can have Full Password access so that each user has their own User ID and password and each can be given or denied access to areas of the LifeLine system.
